Amelio is the workflow and methodology governance platform developed by CPAs specifically for accounting firms. Firms use it to govern how work gets done, from prospect intake through tax filing, audit sign-off, and everything in between.
Most firms outgrow spreadsheets and institutional memory. Required steps get missed in busy season, engagement letter language drifts, and partners lack visibility into where things stand. Amelio closes that gap without forcing firms into rigid, one-size-fits-all systems.
Amelio is built around four connected capabilities:
WORKFLOW
Amelio manages the full lifecycle of tax returns, audits, and client onboarding. The same rules engine that runs a simple ten-step linear workflow also runs the multi-state tax operations of top-10 firms, hundreds of thousands of returns a year, with hundreds of conditional rules per engagement. Firm-defined rules determine the path by engagement type, complexity, and risk. Required reviews and approvals are enforced before work advances, so required steps cannot be bypassed. Tax filings are managed as deliverables, with grouping, sub-engagements, and due date tracking for multi-state filings in a single engagement.
DOCUMENT GENERATION
Amelio generates engagement letters, MSAs, SOWs, and other client-facing documents built to each client’s exact requirements. Tables, schedules, and lists are assembled from the engagement’s own details, with firm-required language embedded so every document goes out current and correct. Documents route for approval, out for e-signature via DocuSign, and are captured with the engagement. The letter is the output of a governed process, not the starting point.
AI INSIDE THE FIRM’S GUARDRAILS
With AI Skill Builder, firms capture how experienced staff perform workflow steps, such as generating workpapers. Amelio uses AI to gather that knowledge and validate it against source documents and approved examples. When staff reach that step, they drop in client documents and the skill produces the workpaper, repeatable and consistent because the firm defined how it works. A Microsoft Teams chatbot answers natural-language workflow status questions, with deep links to tasks and engagements.
AUDIT METHODOLOGY
For attestation work, Amelio governs the methodology itself. Teams drop client documents in and AI reviews them against the risk assessment, proposing new or updated risks. The professional sees how each risk was identified and can adjust the rating and description, or reject it, before anything changes. The risk assessment then drives audit procedures through deterministic, firm-defined logic, with skills generating supporting workpapers along the way. Required steps are embedded in the workflow, updates apply across live engagements without resetting work, and the firm can stand behind the work when it comes under scrutiny. Professional judgment is preserved where it belongs; the platform governs the rest.
The firm sets the policy. Amelio enforces it.

Amelio is built for mid-size and growing CPA firms that have outgrown spreadsheets, rigid industry software, or aging custom systems. It scales from firms with multiple service lines to large, multi-office practices that manage engagements at volume.
No. Amelio governs how work moves through the firm — assignments, required steps, reviews, and approvals. It complements your existing tax preparation and audit documentation tools rather than replacing them. Deep integrations via APIs connect Amelio to the systems your firm already uses.
Most firms are running a first service line within 6–8 weeks. Implementation tracks your firm’s existing risk policies and templates; the work is decision-making about how your firm wants to govern the process, not extended configuration.
Amelio integrates with Salesforce, HubSpot, and most practice CRMs to initiate acceptance workflows; DocuSign and other e-signature platforms for engagement letters; and tax, audit, and document management systems via APIs and custom scripts.
Partners and firm leaders get real-time visibility into every engagement — where it is in the workflow, what’s outstanding, and where bottlenecks exist. A Microsoft Teams chatbot surfaces workflow status without requiring anyone to log in separately.
The workflow governs execution instead of memory. Every engagement enters with firm-defined assignments, deadlines, and required steps, and reviews are enforced before work advances. Engagements roll forward from last year’s file with detailed, configurable roll forwards, so setup never starts from scratch. Required steps cannot be bypassed, so nothing depends on someone remembering to check.
Yes, and this is where most workflow tools fall short. Tax filings are managed as deliverables with due date and extension date calculations. Deliverable groups and sub-engagements track each state’s filing separately within one engagement, with different reviewers assigned per state or group. Firms can import their filing databases to set this up at scale.
Letters are generated from current firm-approved language, with tables, schedules, and lists assembled from the engagement’s own details. Documents are routed for required approvals and sent out for e-signature via built-in DocuSign. The letter is the output of a governed process, not a template someone edits by hand.
AI proposes; professionals decide. Teams drop client documents in, and AI reviews them against the engagement’s risk assessment and proposes new or updated risks. The professional can see how each risk was identified and adjust the rating and description, or reject it, before anything changes. The risk assessment then drives audit procedures through deterministic, firm-defined logic.
Most tools show position on a path. They track and assign. Amelio decides which path applies and enforces it through a business rules engine that governs routing, approvals, and required steps. It is the difference between knowing where a return is and knowing every required step was completed before it moved forward.
